Mike Atwood, President

Mike, our company's founder, manages and oversees corporate operations for Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU). He also conducts domestic and international night vision goggle sales and training. He travels extensively to South America, conducting sales and training of night vision systems, as well as performing bilingual, initial and recurrent aircraft training in night vision goggle flight. Mike is also involved with contracting operations in the U.S. military, other government agencies, and law enforcement organizations. He has over 10,000 accident- and incident-free flight hours, and holds an Airline Transport Rating for Rotorcraft, as well as Instructor Rotorcraft and Instrument Instructor Rotorcraft Certificates. Mike has been actively involved in night vision programs for military, government, and civil flight operations since 1978.
 

Chris Atwood, Vice President

Chris came to the company with over 23 years of public sector experience in management and information technology. Some of her career highlights during her tenure with the State of Idaho include the successful implementation of a digital drivers license, and various Web applications for commercial and vehicle registrations, and permitting. Active in computer technology since 1982, Chris lends her knowledge and experience to implement the systems needed to better manage our business. Her interest in information technology, second languages, project management, and administration operations, coupled with her experience training others in a variety of technology-related areas, make her a valuable member of the ASU team.
 

Kim Harris, Director of Operations

Kim brings over 30 years and 10,500 hours of accident- and incident-free flight hours, and holds an Airline Transport Rating for Rotorcraft, as well as Instructor Rotorcraft and Instrument Instructor Rotorcraft Certificates.  His flying history began with the US Army in the 1970’s and extends to managing the current day-to-day ASU flight and training department operations, both domestic and internationally.  In between, he has gained experience in Helitac firefighting; external load; animal herding and capture; ENG TV News; video, film and still photography; EMS;  Part 91 corporate flight department operations manager; Part 135 Chief Pilot, Instructor and Check Airman; Part 61 & 141 CFII; and Military Instructor Pilot in AH-64 Apaches.  Kim has been flying with Night Vision Goggles since 1979, first with the military, and later in civil EMS, law enforcement, and SAR as well as civil NVG ground and flight instruction with ASU, and logged over 2,400 NVG/NVS flight hours.
 

Shawn Woodworth, Director of Maintenance

Shawn joined the ASU team in 2006 as a NVG Technician and has worked his way up in the company.  In 2007, Shawn was promoted the ASU management team as Director of Maintenance.  His credentials include FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) and Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic, with Avionics certificate, which he has held for over 11 years.  Shawn has conducted a variety of aviation maintenance operations for companies in the United States, gaining experience on over 15 airframes and 5 engine models. As Director of Maintenance, Shawn oversees the operations of ASU’s FAA Part 135 combined with our  FAA Part 145 Repair Station whose activities focus on the installation of 16 Night Vision Lighting System STC’s, which cover 40+ models of aircraft, plus ASU’s Parts Manufacturing Authorization (PMA) area which prepare’s STC installation kits and provides our customers with on-going support. Shawn’s enthusiasm, knowledge of the industry, good communication skills and new ideas make him a great addition to the ASU team.
 

Hannah Gordon, Director of Sales and Marketing

With degrees in Marketing and Management, General Business Management and Production, and Operations Management, Hannah serves as Director of Sales & Marketing for ASU, working closely with team members from other departments in the company. Her responsibilities include product sales, managing multiple product lines, implementing new products, devising marketing plans and directing our marketing efforts for the company's products and services. Hannah's strong negotiating skills, understanding of competitor positioning, and her ability to develop competitive strategies for the company make her a real asset.
