MIKE ATWOOD,
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

MIKE, THE COMPANY FOUNDER, FOCUSES HIS EFFORTS PRIMARILY ON NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND INTERNATIONAL SALES FOR AVIATION SPECIALTIES UNLIMITED INC. (ASU). HE TRAVELS EXTENSIVELY BOTH DOMESTICALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, INTERFACING WITH OUR EXPANDING NETWORK, AND IS ALSO INVOLVED WITH CONTRACTING OPERATIONS IN THE U.S. MILITARY, OTHER GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT ORGANIZATIONS. HE HAS OVER 10,000 ACCIDENT- AND INCIDENT-FREE FLIGHT HOURS, AND HOLDS AN AIRLINE TRANSPORT RATING FOR ROTORCRAFT, AS WELL AS INSTRUCTOR ROTORCRAFT AND INSTRUMENT INSTRUCTOR ROTORCRAFT CERTIFICATES. MIKE HAS BEEN ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN NIGHT VISION PROGRAMS FOR MILITARY, GOVERNMENT, AND CIVIL FLIGHT OPERATIONS SINCE 1978 AND IS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2011 NIGHT VISION LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.

 

CHRIS ATWOOD,
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

CHRIS CAME TO THE COMPANY WITH OVER 23 YEARS OF PUBLIC SECTOR EXPERIENCE IN MANAGEMENT AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY. SOME OF HER CAREER HIGHLIGHTS DURING HER TENURE WITH THE STATE OF IDAHO INCLUDE THE SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF A DIGITAL DRIVERS LICENSE, AND VARIOUS WEB APPLICATIONS FOR COMMERCIAL AND VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS, AND PERMITTING. ACTIVE IN COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY SINCE 1982, CHRIS LENDS HER KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE TO IMPLEMENT THE SYSTEMS NEEDED TO BETTER MANAGE OUR BUSINESS. HER INTEREST IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, SECOND LANGUAGES, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, AND ADMINISTRATION OPERATIONS, COUPLED WITH HER EXPERIENCE TRAINING OTHERS IN A VARIETY OF TECHNOLOGY-RELATED AREAS, MAKE HER A VALUABLE MEMBER OF THE ASU TEAM.

PRESIDENT

U.S. ARMY AND AVIATION INDUSTRY VETERAN, JIM TOOK OVER THE ROLE OF ASU PRESIDENT AFTER SPEARHEADING ASU’S GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH L-3 WARRIOR SYSTEMS. JIM’S LEADERSHIP SKILLS ARE COMPRISED FROM HIS SUCCESSFUL CAREER AS AN ARMY AVIATOR, MANAGER OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRAM MANAGEMENT FOR COMPANIES SUCH AS LITTON, NORTHROP GRUMMAN, THALES AND L-3 WARRIOR SYSTEMS. HE ALSO CO-CHAIRED THE RTCA COMMITTEE, WHICH PUBLISHED THE DO-275, A GOVERNING DOCUMENT FOR NVG FLIGHT WITHIN THE NATIONAL AIRSPACE SYSTEM, CURRENTLY USED BY THE FAA. JIM HAS ALSO LOGGED MORE THAN 5,000 FLIGHT HOURS IN BOTH FIXED AND ROTOR-WING AIRCRAFT, DOMESTICALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY. HIS KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND VISION COMBINED MAKE JIM AN OBVIOUS CHOICE AS ASU’S SUCCESSOR PRESIDENT.

 

DR. JOE ESTRERA,
VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

DR. JOE JOINED THE ASU TEAM IN SEPTEMBER 2013, HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT IN AVIATION, GROUND, AND EMERGING MARKET AREAS. BEFORE JOINING ASU, JOE WAS WITH L-3 ELECTRO-OPTICAL SYSTEMS FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS AND WAS ENGAGED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PHOTOMULTIPLIER, IMAGE INTENSIFIER, AND INFRARED TECHNOLOGIES AND PRODUCTS. HE IS ACTIVE IN THE STUDY OF UNCOOLED INFRARED TECHNOLOGIES, IMAGE FUSION TECHNOLOGIES (IMAGE INTENSIFIER AND INFRARED, IR SENSORS), AND OPTICS/ELECTRO-OPTICS FOR ADVANCED SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT. JOE WAS PRINCIPAL AND CO-PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR AND SYSTEM ARCHITECT IN SEVERAL MAJOR U.S. MILITARY SOLDIER NIGHT VISION SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS OVER THE LAST TWO DECADES. HE HAS NUMEROUS TECHNICAL PAPERS, PATENTS, AND INDUSTRIAL CORPORATE AWARDS UNDER LITTON INDUSTRIES, NORTHROP GRUMMAN, AND L-3 COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION IN THE AREAS OF III-V SEMICONDUCTORS MATERIALS, IMAGE INTENSIFICATION, THERMAL INFRARED IMAGING AND NIGHT VISION SYSTEMS. HE IS CURRENTLY A MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY, SPIE, AMERICAN VACUUM SOCIETY, AND HAS BEEN AN ASSISTANT ADJUNCT PROFESSOR OF PHYSICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS IN DALLAS SINCE 1996. DR. JOE IS A SOLID ADDITION TO THE ASU TEAM.

 

HANNAH GORDON,
VICE PRESIDENT, ADMINISTRATION

WITH DEGREES IN MARKETING AND MANAGEMENT AND GENERAL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT, HANNAH SERVES AS THE VICE PRESIDENT OF ADMINISTRATION FOR ASU. SHE IS THE KEY COMPONENT TO ENSURE ACCURATE AND TIMELY INFORMATION, MATERIALS AND RESOURCES ARE PROVIDED TO ALL STAFF. WORKING CLOSELY WITH TEAM MEMBERS FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS IN THE COMPANY AS WELL, SHE IS THE DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES, FINANCE, FACILITIES, IT AND SUPPLY CHAIN. HANNAH'S STRONG ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS, UNDERSTANDING OF EMPLOYEE NEEDS, AND HER ABILITY TO SEE THE ‘BIG PICTURE’ AND DEVELOP STRATEGIES TO ACHIEVE MULTIPLE GOALS MAKE HER A REAL ASSET.
