Export Compliance Coordinator

Office Location: Boise, Idaho


The Export Compliance Coordinator will coordinate and administer activities related to International Traffic and Arms Regulation (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) compliance in conjunction with company compliance and policies.


  • Maintain expertise (current knowledge) of regulations applicable to export
  • Prepare application for and administer simple and complex export licenses, agreements and amendments required by regulations
  • Develop, maintain and amend current ASU Export Compliance policies and procedures to comply with state and federal regulations
  • Responsible for ensuring application for applicable approvals, authorizations and licenses in order to properly export ASU hardware or technical data
  • Support international shipments to ensure all terms and conditions have been met, shipping documents are accurate, and ensure all associated export licenses are in place prior to shipment. Responsible for AES filing and associated export shipment paperwork.
  • Monitor, assist and provide training to ASU staff with regard to the interpretation of importing/exporting laws and regulations and applicable policies and procedures and product classification.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of applicable electronic files
  • Manage and oversee all site visitor screenings for ASU
  • Coordinate temporary export approvals and return of consigned equipment for the use of private demos or tradeshow purposes, and secure a carnet as required.
  • Monitor compliance with approved licenses and agreements and track licenses for renewal or re-submittal
  • Anticipate, research and report on future changes in import/export laws and ensure such knowledge is factored into the planning, strategy, resources and procedures.
  • Interface with other departments in order to establish and maintain effective and relevant export/import activities and support in relation to the organization’s sales, purchasing, materials management and overall operating functions
  • Interface with freight forwarders, U.S. Customs, etc. to resolve or answer problems concerning ASU’s export licenses and shipments. Responsible for compliance with US Customs regulations in all transactions as well as provides broker support for clearance of goods and compliance.
  • Audit program/functional departments to ensure compliance with ITAR / EAR provisions
  • Interface with company legal representation on matters related to licenses
  • Prepares, submits and maintains ASU’s GSA Contract modifications, schedule and SIP software
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed or assigned

  • Act as the Empowered Official for ASU
  • Developing licensing strategies for international marketing, sales support, and manufacturing of defense and dual use articles to ensure compliance of regulations is enforced


  • Experience:  Minimum of 2 years of export compliance experience or a closely related discipline.

Export certification or other training is preferred.

    • ITAR Regulations
    • Export related license submittals
    • Strong business acumen, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Familiarity with U.S. government regulations, procedures and organizations is highly desired
    • Position requires an individual who is a self-starter, detailed oriented and well organized
    • The ability to interpret complex and/or detailed regulations, with limited guidance and/or direction required
    • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills required
    • Requires excellent written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate, with a customer-oriented attitude
    • Ability to review and understand technical data for export classifications for product types
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external customers, associates, departments, and other teams
    • Operating a personal computer with proficiency in related technical and specialized software.  Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2007 or later required
    • Presenting and delivering information effectively
    • Excellent verbal and written communication



  • IIEI Export Certification preferred and/or certification within 2 years of placement with considerable past export experience.
