Government & Defense

ASU proudly serving federal and defense customers with the most advanced night vision solutions and putting operators first since 1995

In 1995 Aviation Specialties Unlimited, Inc. (ASU), was established in Boise, Idaho, to meet the growing demand for aviation night vision. Since then, ASU has become the preferred partner for rotor- and fixed-wing night vision aircraft operators. ASU designs, manufactures, installs and obtains certification for night vision lighting systems and night vision goggles(NVGs). ASU provides initial and advanced flight and ground training services. ASU sustains our products and services through our FAA approved Repair Station and PMA shop. ASU is a global provider of NVG services and product for our military and civil customers.

This is Innovation Envisioned

With decades of experience in corporate and government research and development, the ASU team can tackle the most challenging aerospace and defense projects. The team holds patents and technical publications in night vision and electro-optical imaging systems on numerous imaging systems.

See ASU's Dr. Joseph Estrera share our experience as one of the four AFWERX Helmet Challenge finalists to deliver prototypes to the United States Air Force.

ASU partners with Capewell to offer the Advanced Aeronox NVG Mount and Battery Pack System

AERONOX helmet mounts from ASU are widely acknowledged to be the best available for a fast expanding field. Night vision systems have become essential equipment for the military—both on the ground and in the air, and are in regular use by law enforcement, homeland security, search & rescue organizations, air-med teams and even fire departments. AERONOX helmet mounts and battery packs from ASU are more durable and versatile than other systems. The QD universal interface allows secure attachment to both ground and aircrew helmets, and an NVG release button allows the goggle to be removed and safely stowed when not in use. A retractable lanyard prevents loss of the NVG unit. The integrated low battery indicator alerts the user when battery power is low.

Equipping pilots aircrews with the finest NVIS equipment including:

  • Advanced NVGs, mounts and helmets
  • NVG Pilot, Instructor Pilot, maintenance and crew member training
  • Worldwide aviation NVIS aircraft modification approvals (STCs) PMA, and ECO
  • Night vision goggle certification, repair, maintenance and maintenance training
