L3Harris has recently become aware of a condition that may affect operation on a small percentage of ANVS Night Vision Goggles (NVG). The condition is limited to specific deliveries beginning April 2016 through July 2018. To determine if your NVGs may be affected, please reference the serial numbers listed in Appendix A of the Operational Safety Notice

Please note this is a limited and anomalous condition and only units that fall within a specific delivery time were affected by this condition and does not include Legacy Harris goggles. If you believe your unit is affected, please refer to Appendix 1 to determine if your unit’s serial number is included and follow the instructions provided for further screening and repair.

A recently announced agreement between The National Mountain Rescue Corps (CNSAS) and the Italian Company Aersud Elicotteri promotes the regulatory advancement of NVG use in helicopter regulations among other objectives to improve effectiveness. The collaborative agreement is aimed at increasing the safety of HEMS and SAR (Search and Rescue) missions, with particular reference to the improvement of on-board helicopter equipment and staff training. Aviation Specialties Unlimited, Inc. (ASU) and L3 Warrior Sensor Systems recently entered into an agreement, making ASU an authorized Technical Standard Order (TSO) service center and – upon approval of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) – an authorized TSO recovery center. The master service agreement authorizes ASU to market, sell and service L3 TSO-certified goggles domestically to ASU’s existing customer base.

For more than 20 years Aviation Specialties Unlimited, Inc. (ASU) has worked with both helicopter and fixed-wing operators on cockpit modifications around the world. With changing technology, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements and mandates, ASU announced that they have hired Darren Knight as their new Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA) Manager and appointed Austin Barrett as the Engineering Change Order (ECO) Program Manager. Barrett and Knight will help customers navigate through compliance concerns with overseeing ECO requirements and PMA needs.

From the Airborne Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) annual convention held in Houston Texas, Aviation Specialties Unlimited Inc., (ASU) announced the OWLS system is now being offered as an affordable gimbal for manned aircraft platforms. Originally designed to be lightweight for coupling with an aerial drone or unmanned aircraft, the OWLS system has proven to be rugged enough to be added directly to aircraft.

Aviation Specialities Unlimited (ASU) is demonstrating the new Observation Wide-Area Low-Altitude Sensor (OWLS) microgimbal at Heli-Expo 2015. 

Adapted for small UAVs, the new sensor is lightweight and also has the potential for use on manned aircraft.
