What is an ECO?

An Engineering Change Order (ECO) is a formal process used to make minor but essential modifications to your aircraft. ASU’s experienced team ensures every detail is handled with precision and speed, so you can get back in the air with minimal downtime.

The following are required:

1. High quality photographs of the areas to be modified. Please include photos of the instrument panel, overhead, and center console.

2. A marked up copy of the aircraft specific ICA Appendices. Write legibly on the drawings with red pen and provide locations, model numbers, and other pertinent information.

Following this process ensures your ECO request is processed in the most timely and accurate manner.

You’ll receive a quote back within 1 business day, often within an hour:

The charge for most ECOs is $3,000 to cover engineering, drafting, certification, and data updates/distribution.
Updates categorized as “major” per our Partnership for Safety Agreement with the FAA are $3,650 plus any associated FAA or DAR costs due to the additional scope of work required to revise the Master Drawing List. Major projects include the addition of equipment that ASU had never approved in the past. In certain instances, this could be a complete configuration change of equipment in the aircraft.

Drawing update process begins with your signed quote approval:

We start by updating the drawings with your requested changes and sending you preliminary drawing(s) and the Configuration Acceptance form. This typically takes about a week.
After you check the drawings, advise us if there are any errors or if the changes are approved. Please note that a change fee may apply to additional configuration changes after the original request.
We’ll work with you until the drawings are accurate.

When you’re happy with the drawings we’ll submit for DER/FAA approval and wrap up the project:

When the drawings are correct, you’ll sign and return the Configuration Acceptance form.
We’ll complete your ECO and forward the data package to the DER/FAA for approval.
Upon DER/FAA approval, we will distribute the drawings and approved ECO electronically to you.
Lastly, we’ll invoice you and archive your drawings.
