The Gen 3 photocathode is very sensitive to low radiation levels of visible and especially near infrared light. It also provides very high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for extended detection ranges at very low light levels. Additionally, intensifiers provide exceptional resolution and the MCP has a thin ion-barrier film that preserves photocathode sensitivity during operation, greatly extending the life of Gen 3 tubes.
The 10160FG Series incorporates a Gen III photocathode that is very sensitive to low levels of visible and near-IR light. It has a thin-film ion barrier to greatly extend Gen III I2 life versus Gen II tubes.

MX-10160 (M890) Image Intensifier Tube - Generation 3 FOM 1600
The OEM continues to improve Generation 3 MX-10160 image intensifier tubes for use in the AN/AVS-6 "ANVIS" and AN/AVS-9 (F4949) aviator night vision goggles, as well as ground systems, including the PVS-15 Night Vision Binocular. Combined improvements in resolution, signal-to-noise ratio and photocathode sensitivity have increased operational range and situational awareness for the user.
