Harris Corporation Night Vision Goggles Receive FAA Technical Standard Order Authorization Certification

Harris Corporation’s F4949 Aviator’s Night Vision Imaging System (ANVIS) has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Standard Order Authorization (TSOA) certification. This certification provides the FAA, as well as others in civil aviation, a quick and clear determination that the night vision product is certified for

Before the TSOA certification program, night vision goggles were certified under a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) which was specific only to the applicant and the aircraft that the STC was to be used toward. Aviation Night Vision Goggles that are manufactured through Harris’ TSOA certified facility no longer need a STC and have FAA authorization to be used in an approved Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS).

The Harris team worked through the year-long process with long-time partner Aviation Specialties Unlimited. The completed process resulted in the certification of F4949 variants, image intensifier variants and the ANVIS low-profile battery pack. These F4949 variants are for both rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft and use the latest Generation 3 night vision technology, including white phosphor technology.

“Harris corporation has supplied more aviation night visioning systems to the military and civil aviation market than any other night vision supplier, and this certification further validates our commitment to quality products designed for the unique rigors aviators face during nighttime flight,” said Erik Fox, vice president and general manager, Harris night vision business.
